MOO?!

So I’m driving home from work yesterday, and all the sudden I look to my left…COWS?!?! What the …?! Apparently there’s a farm in the middle of Herndon, Va. I’ve been driving by this farm for at least a month now, and I had never noticed it before. Maybe the red silo and the smell of manure was a dead giveaway, but seriously. You would never expect to see a farm across the street from 8 beltway bandits. It’s not like it’s vast plains of country where the air is crisp and the soil is rich. No, the air is pretty much polluted by the mass quantities of vehicles that drive along that road, and there’s about 5 shopping centers all within ¾ of a mile, all with their own Starbuck’s. Again I ask, why is there a farm on the corner of West Ox and Centreville Rd?!

I was behind a guy waiting to take a left hand turn minutes before getting on the backbone of Northern Virginia, the Fairfax County Parkway. Seeing the farm, I did a double take, I said, “Are you freaking kidding me?!” Craziness. I guess I just assumed, living in Virginia and all, that the log fence lining the road was another battlefield or something. Boy was I wrong! I’m not used to having cows mooing at me through my rolled down window as if their yelling cat calls. It was all too strange and it wasn’t even Friday yet.

I guess that’s the joys of living in Virginia. This state has it all: beaches, mountains, history, small towns, big cities, universities and personal property taxes. But farms? Lets leave farms to the Midwest, they don’t have too much else.

Virginia is for lovers. Not cows.
